5 out of a series of 22 illustrations done for a TV special focused on the Afro-Colombian communities. Strong, smart and independent figures going from libertarian caudillos like Benkos Bioho and Barule to the ones shown here (from top to bottom) Delia Zapata Olivella (dancer, folklorist), Teresa Martínez de Varela (intellectual, writer, painter), Candelario Obeso (19th century poet, translator of Shakespeare, Victor Hugo and Tennyson), Batata (musician, direct descendant of Benkos Bioho) and Juan Mosquera, a barber from the pacific coast.
